Save our park! The Shore Drive Park Asphalt Trail is back! This trail will permanently change our park for decades to come. St Johns County has resurrected spending up to $1.8 million of taxpayer money to build a blacktop 5′ wide trail that resembles a small road through our neighborhood’s unique irreplaceable green space.

The final ballot results confirm that a supermajority of residents oppose the construction of the trail. This opposition has remained statistically consistent across all polling locations, dates, and times.

With 2,396 households participating, the 17.32% engagement rate nearly matched the 18% voter turnout seen in the 2024 St. Johns County District 3 primary. This is a significant milestone – that same primary decided our representation and elected Commissioner Clay Murphy

To ensure the ballot accurately represents the population, statistical analysis was calculated. The Finite Population Correction (FPC) factor was applied to the margin of error, which adjusts for the fact that a significant portion of the total population was surveyed. With these results is shows that if you ran the poll 100 times, you would get at least 95 of them showing 19-25% of households showing support for the trail and 75-82% in opposition of it’s construction.

Total Community Size: 2,396 households

Total Ballots Cast: 415 households

Participation Rate: 17.32%

Ballots are available for the St Johns County Commissioners and County staff to review.

Clay Murphy reads out at the Feb 11th Meeting at the SASIA clubhouse concerning the trail that 149 households marked their ballots against the trail vs 24 for it. Be sure to answer on the county’s survey as well! Several residents have pointed out that the survey should be considered invalid because it doesn’t verify people live in St Augustine South and it can be answer the survey several times. Clay Murphy has stated several times that 60% of the community needs to be in support of the trail for him to vote for the unpopular Shore Drive Park Trail’s construction. Right now the vote by the St John’s County Board of Commissioners is set to be scheduled for March 3rd or March 24th. Please come to the March 3rd meeting and let your thoughts be known.
